Official Background Checks in Arizona
Arizona Department of Public Safety keeps the statewide fingerprint-based record. It offers no general public name search for another person's Arizona criminal history. eAccess offers available Superior Court documents filed on or after July 1, 2010, through per-document purchases or a subscription. Sealed and confidential documents are excluded. The Coconino County Clerk of Superior Court remains the source for the complete official file, certified copies, and older Superior Court material. Public Access may also omit local ordinance cases, juvenile delinquency matters, protection orders, victim or witness data, and other restricted categories. Arizona Public Records Law starts with access to records held by public officers, but other statutes and court rules limit that access. Restricted, Sealed & Expunged Records
Arizona uses three distinct relief terms. A set aside under A.R.S. § 13-905 can release a person from many penalties and disabilities after discharge, but it does not erase the conviction. DPS annotates the repository entry rather than removing it. Sealing under A.R.S. § 13-911 can restrict public access to eligible arrest, charge, conviction, and sentence records. Marijuana expungement under A.R.S. § 36-2862 applies only to qualifying marijuana conduct.
